The 2022 season marks a welcome return to the Intelligent Money British GT Championship for 2 Seas Motorsport. The British-Bahraini GT3 team will campaign with a single entry for the nine-race calendar after a year away from the full season, lining up with Lewis Williamson and James Cottingham in the Mercedes-AMG GT3. The pair will challenge for the Pro-Am honours, looking to make an immediate impact from the first round at Oulton Park, 16-18 April.

The team re-joins the British GT field after debuting with a full season entry during the 2020 season, finishing third overall in GT3 teams’ championship. A switch to the Mercedes-AMG customer racing family for 2021 saw a one-off entry at the blue riband Silverstone 500, delivering a dominant performance as part of a season in which the team took victories at every race event contested.

Highly decorated classic racer James Cottingham joins 2 Seas Motorsport and will contest his first full British GT season after gaining his first experience of the championship with two events last season, racing with a Mercedes-AMG GT3. Elsewhere, the 38-year old has raced extensively in historic championships with some considerable success, previously taking outright victories at the Tour Auto and Spa 6 Hours. He has scored notable race wins in the Sussex Trophy and Stirling Moss Memorial Trophy at Goodwood Revival, as well as victories in the British Grand Prix and 24 Hours of Le Mans support races.

Lewis Williamson will make his British GT series debut with 2 Seas Motorsport, but he brings significant GT experience to the line-up. The 32-year-old Scot has proved himself to be a leading endurance racer, winning the Blancpain GT Series Endurance Pro-Am title in 2018 and scoring podium finishes at the Suzuka 10 Hours, Bathurst 12 Hours and Spa 24 Hours. Former McLaren Autosport Young Driver of the Year Lewis has been working closely with the team ever since impressing at the Gulf 12 Hours Bahrain at the start of 2021 where he started on the front row.

“The British GT championship has proved itself to be one of the most competitive domestic GT series, and I am really pleased to have 2 Seas Motorsport back where we started out with a podium in 2020. We have enjoyed some strong results since then, and it was great to kick things off this year with a victory already, but the calibre of the grid is looking extremely strong with speed and experience across the whole field, so we know that it is going to be a real challenge for the whole team. It is great to have James joining the team, and I am really pleased to have Lewis back in the car with us. They are both extremely quick, proven race winners, and I think they are going to be a tough pair to beat.”

Sh. Isa Al Khalifa, 2 Seas Motorsport co-owner.

“It is great to confirm a full programme of modern motorsport after competing across various disciplines of historic racing during the last 20 years. At this stage, I feel I have progressed as far as I can with that, and I have always wanted to make the move, so it feels like the next natural step. It is an exciting new challenge as an entirely new discipline, taking on the full British GT season with 2 Seas Motorsport, and I am looking forward to racing with Lewis to keep the momentum up, pushing for race wins and the championship.”

James Cottingham, #4 Mercedes-AMG GT3, 2 Seas Motorsport.

James and Lewis will now carry out a testing programme before the newly-liveried Mercedes-AMG GT3 rolls out for the first round at Oulton Park, over the weekend 16-18 April.
