Race Report

The 2 Seas Motorsport McLaren 720S GT3 of Jordan Witt and Jack Mitchell will start from the front row of the grid on their team debut after qualifying P2 for the opening round of the 2020 Intelligent Money British GT Championship.

The pair narrowly missed out on pole position by the slimmest of margins and will start just ahead of teammates Angus Fender and Dean Macdonald who will start the first race in P3. Race 2 of the weekend will see the pairings start P8 and P9.

The first qualifying session saw Jordan at the wheel of the #10 and Angus driving the #9 McLaren 720S GT3 trading quickest laptimes, and both were in the hunt for the team’s first pole position on debut. A late flurry of activity in the closing moments of the session saw Jordan knocked off the top spot and as the chequered flag dropped 2 Seas Motorsport had locked out the second row of the grid. A track limits infringement during the quickest lap saw the provisional pole lap deleted and Jordan was promoted to P2 with Angus filling the P3 slot. The final laptimes saw Jordan miss out on pole position by just 0.001s.

The action didn’t stop there as the second qualifying session got underway with Jack Mitchell and Dean Macdonald taking over driving duties. Jack immediately took over the baton from Jordan and initially went quickest, while Dean wasn’t far behind as the two drivers battled with the Pro drivers from the GT3 Pro-Am pairings. The laptimes quickly started to improve and the battle between Dean and Jack remained as strong as in the previous session with teammates trading quickest times. As the clock reached zero, Jack edged ahead to put the #10 up in to P8 with Dean and the #9 separated by just 0.024s.

Isa Al-Khalifa, 2 Seas Motorsport team co-owner.

“An amazing result for 2 Seas Motorsport on our debut, and I am so proud of the efforts of each and every member of the team. The drivers have done an incredible job, and I am so proud of the team for achieving a front row start for our first ever event.
I wish I was with the team this weekend, but travel restrictions have prevented me from being there so I am watching the live timing and have the team radio set up so I can follow everything from Bahrain, but I want to wish them luck and we have made a fantastic start to the season which we can build on. It was nerve-wracking to watch it all remotely, but I cannot wait for the action to get underway tomorrow”

Race 1 of the Intelligent Money British GT Championship starts at 13.15BST, with the second one-hour race starting at 16.45BST.
