2 Seas Motorsport will expand its GT3 efforts for the 2021 season with the exciting confirmation of a two-car entry in to the Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters (DTM)
championship. The British-Bahraini team makes the move into the world-renowned German series and will campaign two examples of the 720S GT3 from McLaren, which will also mark a debut in the championship for the British brand.
After launching earlier this year, the initial plans for racing in Europe were revised and saw 2 Seas Motorsport compete in the Intelligent Money British GT Championship, where strong results saw a debut podium – one of seven achieved in total through the season – and a race win with the McLaren 720S GT3, en route to third place in the GT3 championship.
2 Seas Motorsport will enter the DTM championship with the McLaren 720S GT3, running as an exciting new addition to the McLaren Customer Racing programme. This latest chapter further builds on the rich motorsport history of the McLaren name, which includes 12 drivers’ and eight constructors’ titles in Formula 1 from 182 race wins, three victories at the Indianapolis 500, five back-to-back Can-Am titles and is no stranger to success in GT racing with an outright victory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
Isa Al-Khalifa, 2 Seas Motorsport team co-owner.
“The 2 Seas Motorsport team is going from strength to strength, and I am incredibly proud of what we have built and achieved in such a short period of time which sees us announcing a two-car effort in the DTM championship, with McLaren.
The DTM series is one of the most iconic in world motorsport, which only continues to grow in stature, and it is really exciting to be able to make this move to race and continue to build our relationship with McLaren – one of the most successful names in motorsport.”
Nick Cristofaro, 2 Seas Motorsport team co-owner.
“It has been a whirlwind debut season, and the confirmation of our entry into DTM is a big step, but I am confident in the team we have in place and we are up to the challenge.
It is great to be in a position where the championship has opened up to accept GT3 entries, and we can work with McLaren to take the 720S GT3 on to a completely new global stage.
The viewing figures for last year were incredible, and blend of the DTM format with the addition of a GT3 is shaping up to be a very interesting recipe.”
Further details about the 2 Seas Motorsport entries, including driver line-ups, will be confirmed in the coming weeks.
