2 Seas Motorsport confirms Asian Le Mans Series driver line up
After completing another strong European season, including a successful maiden entry at the CrowdStrike 24 Hours of Spa, 2 Seas Motorsport will embark on a further new challenge over the winter season. With confirmation already announced of entry into the forthcoming 2024-25 Asian Le Mans Series, the driver line-up for the #96 Mercedes-AMG will see an exciting line-up of American Anthony McIntosh and Canadian Parker Thompson, alongside a familiar face to the team, Brit Ben Barnicoat. The trio will roll out for the first event at the Sepang International Circuit next week, as action gets underway for the opening rounds - 6-8 December.
Anthony McIntosh joins 2 Seas Motorsport for this latest challenge after completing a full year of racing in North America and Europe throughout the 2024 season already. He successfully finished this year with back-to-back Lamborghini North American Am titles. He also secured another Lamborghini World Championship title in Pro Am, adding to the 2023 World Championship Am title. Additionally, he won the Italian GT Championship, competing at the wheel of the Mercedes-AMG GT3 with further successes, winning five out of the eight races.
Parker Thompson will also make his Series debut in Malaysia, having campaigned across North America over recent seasons. He joins the team fresh from his most recent IMSA WeatherTech Sportscar Championship challenge, having scored a victory followed by a podium at the Petit Le Mans season finale. This latest campaign also saw a GTD victory alongside Ben Barnicoat on the streets of Long Beach in only his second season of IMSA competition, having also taken a victory during his maiden season. These results followed on from Parker being crowned 2022 Porsche Carrera Cup North America champion.
Completing the driver line-up for 2 Seas Motorsport is the 2023 IMSA WeatherTech Sportscar Championship GTD Pro champion, Ben Barnicoat. The 27-year old Brit – a Lexus Racing factory driver – has completed a busy 2024 season which saw him back on the IMSA grid, taking two wins and a podium, as well as taking a LMP2 podium at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, and making his Super Formula debut in Japan. He makes a welcome return to the team, having helped secure back-to-back Gulf 12 Hours titles in recent seasons.
“The Asian Le Mans Series has proven to be one of the most competitive championships in recent years, delivering fantastic multi-class racing every year. It will be great to be a part of it, and I am excited to welcome Anthony and Parker to the team, alongside Ben, who is a real part of the 2 Seas Motorsport family. The three of them have enjoyed some great results over recent seasons, with Parker and Ben combining earlier this season to take a victory in the US, so it will be great to see how they all work together. The grid looks incredibly strong, and multi-class racing always brings its own challenges, but I am confident we have a real opportunity for some strong results over the events.”
Isa Al Khalifa, 2 Seas Motorsport team co-owner.
The series opening race events takes place at the Sepang International Circuit, Malaysia, over the weekend 6-8 December.
