More silverware for 2 Seas Motorsport with victory at Snetterton
British GT was back in action over the weekend, and 2 Seas Motorsport returned to racing on British soil. Ian Loggie and Phil Keen scored a top-4 result in race 1 to keep adding weight to their championship fight, while Kevin Tse and Maximillian Götz, in the Contempo Concept entry, were promoted to the race winners after initially finishing as runners-up in the second encounter.
The double header event got underway with qualifying, and the #6 of Ian and Phil took the upper hand across the two sessions. Ian enjoyed a strong run in the opening shootout to line-up on the second row with Kevin just outside the top-10, while Phil narrowly edged Max in the second session, and the pair would start P2 and P3 for the second race.
Both cars were on the front foot as the first race got underway with Ian hustling the lead pack, while Kevin moved quickly inside the top-10 within the opening two laps. Ian continued to fight for the final podium position, while being forced to defend hard, and positions changed as the battles unfolded around the lap. Ian showed he had clear pace in the #6, but unable to make the move stick as he kept the pressure on until the pit window opened. As he pitted, Kevin remained on track, taking track position while the pitcrew serviced Ian’s car and Phil took over. A lap later, the roles were reversed, and Kevin traded places with Max, during a longer stop due to the success penalty after winning the previous round. With the professional drivers now onboard, Phil kept up the pace to battle for the top-4, crossing the line P4 overall, and claiming an important Pro-Am class podium. Max chipped away throughout the stint, and gained several places, eventually crossing the line in P10.
Race 2 saw the team’s two cars running line astern during the opening stint, as Max followed closely in Phil’s wheel tracks until the pit window opened. A busy pitlane saw both cars serviced and sent, but the #6 was handed a drive through penalty, after his release from the stop, which droped him down through the top-10. From here, Kevin continued to pressure the race leader through the latter stages, as Ian worked to recover the lost positions. Safety Car intervention with just over quarter of the race left, closed up the order, but left some work to do with the GT3 and GT4 cars mixed up behind the leader. On the restart, Kevin was tied up in slower traffic, but quickly moved through to keep the pressure on at the front, while Ian was entangled in a multicar battle all the way to the line, eventually finishing just outside the top-10. Post-race penalties for several cars jumbled the order, the most significant of which saw Kevin and Max promoted to take the race lead – their second of the season.
The championship now takes a short summer break, resuming with a second visit back at Donington Park. The race weekend will also see a return to a longer 2-hour endurance event, taking place 7-8 September.
